||
Grade: 8 School: Roxbury Preparatory Charter School Location: Roxbury, Massachusetts (near Boston) |
Sponsor: An individual financier who chose to remain anonymous.
Overview: Students defined Social Justice for themselves and their peers and developed a list of social issues. They narrowed their list from 30 40 into 6 major categories: Animal Cruelty, Racism, Neighborhood Violence, Homelessness, Class Inequities, and Domestic Violence. Each student chose an issue and spent time finding small ways they could help alleviate the problem. Finally, students researched and selected a range of national and local organizations they felt deserved their Giving Certificates.
